A native Houstonian, Justin was born and raised in Houston before his family relocated to Magnolia, Texas in 1997. In 2000, Justin moved to Central Texas to begin college at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
Justin began working in the legal field as a project assistant for one of the top law firms in the country in 2000. Over the next decade, Justin worked on thousands of cases. Throughout college and law school, he worked for various law firms in both Austin and Houston, focusing on different areas of the law. After his graduation from Southwestern University in 2004 Justin took several years to gain legal experience before embarking on his lifelong dream of attending law school. He enrolled at South Texas College of Law Houston in 2008 and accomplished his goal in 2011 when he graduated and successfully passed the Texas bar exam, gaining admittance to the State Bar of Texas in November 2011.
During law school, Justin clerked for several prominent Houston criminal defense attorneys, working in Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Galveston, Brazoria, Grimes, Jefferson, Liberty, Hays and Travis Counties. Over those years, he gained invaluable courtroom and trial experience while being mentored by trial and appellate attorneys including former prosecutors. Upon graduation from law school, Justin worked as a law clerk for a Houston based firm before being hired as associate attorney for another firm.
In 2013, Justin was honored when he was selected to be among ten attorneys from Houston, Texas to attend the Atlanta-based criminal defense training program known as Gideon’s Promise. Recognized for their work in the award-winning HBO documentary, Gideon’s Army, Gideon’s Promise’s mission of providing client-centered representation for all those accused of crimes resonated deeply with Justin’s personal and professional philosophy. Gideon’s Promise is a three-year training and education program that involves intensive trial skill development and mentorship. Justin proudly graduated from Gideon’s Promise in January, 2016.
In addition to the training provided by Gideon’s Promise, Justin vigorously continues to sharpen his legal and trial skills by regularly attending educational and training conferences. Justin successfully completed the same 24-hour National Highway Traffic Safety Administration training course required for law enforcement officers to be certified in the administration of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. These “tests” are used to determine intoxication of individuals in Driving While Intoxicated cases. This training gives Justin an edge in representing clients charged with DWI over other attorneys who lack this experience.
An active member of the largest local criminal defense bar association in the country, the Harris County Criminal Lawyer’s Association (“HCCLA”), Justin was elected to be one of the Association’s 16 board members in 2015. Even prior to his election, Justin volunteered his time to HCCLA by regularly attending meetings and events, contributing articles to their quarterly publication, The Defender, as well as assisting in the production of HCCLA’s live, call-in TV show, Reasonable Doubt. In 2016, Justin took over as Director of Reasonable Doubt.
Justin takes pride in his work ethic, attention to detail, communication with clients, professionalism and aggressively fighting for his clients in each and every case. He has worked on hundreds of criminal cases and has a proven track record in criminal trials.
In addition to his love of the law, Justin greatly enjoys playing the guitar, attending live music events, traveling, and spending time with his family, friends, and his dog, Scout.
